To lead the engineering development of the control unit portion of the product. This included a large portion of the actual design as well as liaison with outside engineering resources including; design consultants, contract manufacturers and an asian tooler (trips to China provided direct experience with the tooling and molding of the product).

To assist in design and Pro-E implementation of a personal computer system for people with disabilities. Also designed an optical testing apparatus (used for low-volume production) and developed concepts and prototypes for an interactive toothbrush.

The Job
Hired, under contract, to assist in design and Pro-E implementation of a cryogenic tissue oblation device. Subsequently taken on as employee and assumed role as project's lead designer and Pro-E user for the completion of project, hand over to client and ensuing project. Also involved in brainstorms, design assistance and mechanical analysis in several other projects throughout the company.

Achievements
Promoted to senior Pro-E, included as co-inventor on patent application entitled, "Apparatus for delivering radiation energy".

Extra-Curricular
Continually endeavored to improve performance throughout the company by putting the following systems in place:
-Created easy to use beam bending spreadsheet
-Devised on-line multi-user Pro-E file management system
-Created company intranet which became instrumental for training new employees and managing ISO documents.
-Added to companies existing knowledge base with intranet based Pro-E tutoring pages.

In an attempt to utilize their knowledge of optics and find applications for their proprietary fiber optic switching, Lightwave is pursuing several projects in the medical environment.  The main focus is a disposable electro-surgical pencil and an accompanying controller.

The Job
Hired as junior mechanical designer to assist in research and development of their products and semi automated production system. Subsequently became lead mechanical engineer for development of reusable controller. Being a small company, this position involved a wide range of duties from machining of jigs to detailed design on Pro-E. The nature of this product demanded highly repeatable, accurate and cost sensitive solutions. The companies ISO 9001 status demanded organized and well documented work.
