Alan Crarer has been involved in product development for over seven years. A strong base of fundamental engineering knowledge was provided by the University of Calgary, in Canada, where he earned his mechanical engineering degree. Subsequently, a diverse selection of employers has supplemented this with a wealth of practical skills and rich experience.

Employers have included start-ups (such as Game Ready and Lightwave Medical), design consultancies (such as Bridge Design, Moto Development and Frog Design) as well as established engineering-focused corporations (such as Ballard Power – the world leader in fuel cell technology).

Fields of practice have primarily been medical devices and consumer products. Alan’s most recent permanent position was lead engineer, developing a physical-therapy device with an emphasis on Industrial design and establishing a high-quality brand, for Cool Systems/Game Ready.

Alan has held senior-engineering positions as well as independent contractor and consultant positions (with varying levels of involvement, including advisory). Products that Alan has designed have received a variety of awards.

He prides himself on creating elegant solutions that will please both the client and end-user, and aims to diversify his skills and expand his knowledge working with dynamic companies in various environments.
